ABOUT

Quarter Valley Stables is proud to offer riding lessons for horse enthusiasts of all ages looking to develop a relationship with a horse in a supportive environment. We proudly offer a multi-disciplined program of Basic English and Western riding to advanced Western Pleasure and Reining.

Please Note :  We do not offer Trail Rides.

Our Philosophy & Approach

Our philosophy is to encourage riders to be physically and mentally “present” when they are on a horse. This kind of presence offers the opportunity for riders to learn something new about themselves and provides a nurturing setting to focus on their strengths and needs while making an emotional connection with their horse. We strive to ensure that the rider learns the language and “feel” of their horse, ultimately developing a strong understanding of horses.

At Quarter Valley, we take the well-being of each horse and rider very seriously. We teach riders appropriate horsemanship, encourage them to ask questions, and promote proper fundamental technique both on the ground and in the saddle from the outset and throughout a rider’s unique growth process. It is our priority to establish safety for both horse and rider within a supportive team environment. We take great pleasure in watching riders’ confidence, pride, decision-making skills and maturity all come together in a new-found ability to handle themselves in all situations both on and around horses.

Our Instructors

At Quarter Valley Riding School, our instructors are focused on providing a safe, fun and rewarding experience. All staff are members of the ORHA, NRHA, and AQHA.

RAY NITTI has been professionally involved with horses for the past 25 years. Although his main focus has been on the sport of reining, he has had a passion for horses his entire life. He has been dedicated to learning all aspects of the horse, from the way they perceive the world to helping them physically master the difficult maneuvers of a reining pattern. Ray has travelled to the United States numerous times to ride with some of the top trainers in the world, which has enhanced his skill levels in both coaching and showing. He will continue to compete at shows across North America as he shares his experience with his students.

THERESA MELISCH, assistant trainer and instructor, has been riding English and Western for over 10 years. The past 6 years she has focused on developing her skills in the sport of reining under the guidance of Ray Nitti. She has successfully trained numerous horses and riders for competition, taught lessons to all ages and levels, and developed a strong understanding of horses.

Our Facilities & Horses

Only 40 minutes from downtown Toronto, our property boasts a large and fully-lit indoor arena with new footing. We have safe areas to enjoy riding outdoors including access to trails and a large sand ring. We have numerous paddocks where our horses are turned out for grass, play and relaxation. While our facility is large, we maintain an intimate and supportive community within our program that draws in all riders, their friends and families. We have staff living on site for nightly checks and round the clock support for our horses. There are washrooms and a heated lounge for parents and siblings to enjoy.

All of our horses are Registered Quarter Horses. This breed is well known for their calm and forgiving nature. Our horses are reliable, safe and seasoned mounts to learn upon, regardless of age or ability.
